My love of cozy mysteries will never end! With that being said I was very pumped to get approved for this on Netgalley. It has two things going for it right away… it’s a cozy mystery and it has paranormal right in the title. As far as books go, I’m a big fan of both. I’ll state right off the bat here that if you’re not a fan of paranormal in your mysteries then I wouldn’t write this one off right away, the paranormal museum is more of a fun backdrop for the story.
Maddie Kosloski has returned home after some serious setbacks in her career. She spends her time looking for a new job and hanging out with her friends Adele and Harper. Before she knows it, she’s somehow agreed to manage the Paranormal Museum for her friend Adele. The job takes on some major complications when someone is found murdered in the museum and her friend Adele seems to be the major suspect. Maddie would be more confident in the police finding the real killer if one of the officers in charge wasn’t her high school bully. Maddie is going to have a lot to do if she wants to prove her friend is innocent while dealing with managing the museum, dealing with ghost hunters and possible ghosts, the sexy owner of the motorcycle shop next door, and a wonderfully colorful bunch of people that she runs into while working at the museum.
I have to say I really enjoyed so many aspects of this story. The main character, Maddie, was very relate able. It may seem like a small aspect of the story but the fact that Maddie is kind of lost in life at the moment, wondering what she’ll do next, appealed to me. We get to see her reluctantly agree to manage the Paranormal Museum and see how things change as the story goes on. Many cozy mysteries have a lot of the same backdrops; bookstore, cafe, bakery, etc. and it was nice to read about somethings new like this museum…LOVE IT! The museum provides the setting for another mystery for Maddie to delve into aside from the murder and I found myself just as interested in that plot line as well.
Another thing that kept me feverishly turning pages is the spectacular cast of characters. Between her friends, friends ex husband, family, construction workers, museum enthusiasts and patrons there is no shortage of colorful characters or suspects. And let’s not forget the very good looking owner of the motorcycle shop next door, Mason. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the romantic interest in this cozy mystery wasn’t the typical “ruggishly handsome detective on the case who’s trying to get her to leave the investigating to the cops”. There’s not a lot of romance in this one but I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of Mason in the future, and I hope we do.
I had so much fun reading this and trying to figure out who the murderer was. I was pleasantly surprised, and satisfied, by the ending. I really enjoyed The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum and I hope I don’t have to wait too long to read another book to find out what happens next for Maddie and her friends. There’s a little bit of something for everyone in this one so I’d say put it on your list!
What do you like most in a cozy mystery? Have you come across this one yet…what do you think? What have you read lately that you just loved? I’d love to hear what you think. All thoughts and recommendations are welcome. If you read The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum I’d love to hear what you think! Happy Reading!
